My sweet spot? The family business owner who is brilliant at what they do — but the books just aren’t their gig.

After 30 years in accounting and business development, I’ve built something beyond qualifications: an ability to see around corners. To recognise what’s working, what’s quietly creating problems, and what opportunity is sitting right there — unnoticed. That perspective comes from decades inside businesses of every shape and size, paying close attention.

The name Building Blocks for Business isn’t accidental. Good bookkeeping is like good construction — the foundation has to be right before anything else can stand. I do remedial work when the structure needs fixing, build systems fit for purpose, and make sure the load-bearing elements are sound. What looks fine on the surface sometimes needs attention underneath.

I particularly love working with franchise clients — and I bring something most bookkeepers can’t: experience on both sides of the franchise relationship. Having worked with both franchisors and franchisees, I understand not just what the Master Franchise regulations require, but why. That distinction matters when your accounts need to be completed a particular way and you need a bookkeeper who gets it without needing it explained.

Whether you need a one-off clean-up or ongoing support, I work best with clients who value a consistent, trusted bookkeeper in their corner long term. My job is to disappear quietly into the background and sort it out, leaving you to focus on what you’re great at.

I love reminding clients of where they started. When you’re deep in the day-to-day it’s easy to forget how far you’ve come. I keep that perspective.
